Monmouth County Must Take the Lead to Save Asbury Park's North End Beach

Help save Asbury Park's north end beach by sending Freeholder Burry and the other Freeholders a letter. Take action here.

Recently the Asbury Park City Council sent a letter to Freeholder Lillian Burry asking the County to consider purchasing the Bradley Cove lot as dedicated parkland. Freeholder Burry has made it clear that she and a majority of the Monmouth County Park's Recreation Commissioners feel it is Asbury Park's responsibility to order the appraisal to begin this process.

Send Freeholder Burry a letter by clicking here and then call her office (732-683-8855) to ask her and the County Park's system to take a leadership role on this issue. Let her know that you feel the County should take the lead on this preservation effort by ordering an appraisal because:

1. This parcel sits right in the middle of coastal Monmouth County and the Park System is the natural leader of this preservation effort. The Monmouth County Park system has the resources and the expertise in acquiring land and creating world-class regional parks.

2. Many Monmouth County residents, not just locals from the surrounding municipalities, currently use the north end beach area. If preserved as open space, this area would truly serve as a regional oceanfront park for fisherman, surfers, beach-goers, seniors, dog lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

3. Considering this will truly be a regional oceanfront park, Asbury Park is not in a position to lead this effort.

4. Based on the Department of Community Affairs 2009 statistics, over a 10-year period, the towns of  Deal, Allenhurst, Interlaken, Loch Arbor, Asbury Park and Ocean Township have or will contribute over $15 million into the Monmouth County open space fund. They contribute over $1.5 million to the County fund each and every year,  yet they have no county parks within their borders.

Let's show Freeholder Burry that the vast majority of Monmouth County/NJ residents support the preservation of this land. Reach out to ask her, as Freeholder Liaison to the Parks, to request the Recreation Commissioners order an appraisal on the Bradley Cove tract.
