The Jersey Shore Chapter wants to enact bag legislation in Asbury Park, NJ.
The Jersey Shore Chapter has been approached by, and made a presentation to the Asbury Park, NJ Mayor and Council. The Chapter has conducted numerous beach cleanups in Asbury Park over the years and recently began collecting and cataloguing the data of items found This information was used to support the idea of bag legislation in the small Monmouth County City.
Fees, bans and a combination of the two were discussed by the City Council and the ultimate decision residing with them.
Late in the process, a member of the City Council wanted a maximum to the fee. The Chapter expressed the downsides to a maximum on a paper bag fee but that is what passed by the Asbury Park City Council on 06-11-19. But it does not go into effect until January 1, 2020.
