Clean water, healthy beaches, beach access and special places. These are our core areas of work.
The Clean Water initiative is primarily focused on protecting water quality in coastal watersheds and in the near-shore marine environment. The Jersey Shore Chapter has recently begun its Sick Surfer campaign to monitor water quality along our coast.
Our Special Places initiative goal is to proactively conserve, protect, and restore special coastal and ocean places. The Special Places Initiative is designed to protect and restore coastal ecosystems through a proactive approach to conservation. The Jersey Shore Chapter is currently fighting to protect one of the open spaces on the Jersey Shore though its Save Asbury Park – Keep North Beach a Beach campaign.
Surfrider Foundation’s Beach Access initiative promotes the right of low-impact, free and open access to the world’s waves and beaches for all people. In NJ this battle has heated up over the last year as Governor Christie attempts to overhaul the State’s Beach Access rules.
Our initiative to protect and preserve healthy beaches that are important coastal ecosystems and recreational areas. Surfrider Foundation’s Beach Preservation campaign is focused on protecting beaches, which are unique coastal environments with ecological, recreational and economic value. Here in NJ we recently won a major when Governor Christie veto the third and final Liquified Natural Gas proposal.
