On Friday May, 3rd, Governor Phil Murphy signed bill S1074 addressing the public's right to access New Jerseys beaches and waterfronts. The Jersey Shore chapter along with other environment organizations and activists have worked hard over the last four years to see this legislation passed. Although there is some concern regarding some language used in the bill, this is a MAJOR victory for the state of New Jersey.
"The bill enshrines into state law the public trust doctrine, which is a principle that establishes that the State’s tidal waters and adjacent shorelines belong to the public to be used for navigation, commerce, and recreation, including bathing, swimming, and fishing."
