Today starts JERSEY SHORE SURFRIDER’s PICK UP 3 MONTH
to support Surfrider's Rise Above Plastics Month
Our goal is to raise awareness of the dangers of plastic pollution and focus on finding solutions.
Quick story….
"The other day I was jogging on the beach and ran into large pieces of Styrofoam. I almost ran past it not wanting to disrupt my run, but then a piece got grabbed by a wave and it was a no-brainer. So I spent about 5 minutes ridiculously chasing it around, pulling pieces out of the break, trying not to get my shoes wet. With an armful of sandy Styrofoam, I trudged my way up to the boardwalk, stuffed it in a garbage can and continued on my run feeling good. In ten minutes, 15 harmful pieces of plastic were kept out of the guts of sea creatures and birds."
Trash for collecting Trash!
Pick Up 3 is a simple worldwide effort to pick up three pieces of trash whenever you are outside.
On your beach run, after a sunset surf session, walking your dog, going to your car – PICK UP 3
It doesn’t have to be on the beach. Trash on the streets ends up in the ocean.
If each of you picks up 3 once a day that’s 12,000 pieces of trash out of the ocean every day!
We'd like to keep a tally so here are 4 ways to tell us about your pick-ups…
1. Reply to this email or email chair@jerseyshoresurfrider.org with your tally each day/week/at the end of the month. Feel free to share photos and stories.

October EVENTS…
The Jersey Shore Chapter will be sponsoring the Beach Sweeps October 19th at North Beach, Asbury Park and a Dune Grass Planting October 26th in Shipbottom, LBI.
We will have templates there. Come on out and help protect our beaches and ocean!
You can also bring your templates to any of the other Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweeps along the coast on October 19th!
