A Monmouth County free-diver named Art Nelson made some stunning videos back in the late 1990's about the effects of beach replenishment on marine life around our rock groins and jetties. This is before digital video so it may look a bit dated, and there is corny narration to go along with it. But the footage itself does not lie. There was an amazing amount and variety and fish just yards off the average local beach in NJ and much of that habitat was covered with sand.

We understand that much more replenishment is coming in the wake of Sandy, but would it be so terrible to leave the groins alone, for the anglers, and for the fish?
