Earth Day Gathering 2013: A Scientific Response to Hurricane Sandy will be held at Infoage Science and History Museum in Wall Township, NJ on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 3-5PM. The museum address is 2201 Marconi Road, Wall Township, NJ 07719. This event is free and will be aimed at updating the public of increasing climate change, what we can do to help lower our impact and how to better prepare for storms and power outages. Confirmed speakers include the keynote speaker Dr. Alan Robock, Rutgers Professor II of climatology in the Department of Environmental Science; Dante DiPirro, “Mr. Sustainable”; Nicole Altneu, Climate Leader for The Climate Reality Project and Greg Auriemma, Chair of the Ocean County Sierra Club. The event will draw representatives from multiple organizations including The Sierra Club, The Climate Reality Project,
350.org and The Surfrider Foundation. Tree seedlings will be given out to the first 100 attendees and a small tree will be planted on Infoage property following the event.
Infoage Science and History Museum was without power due to damage caused by Hurricane Sandy between December 2012 and March 2013. The museum was formerly Camp Evans, which is home to the world's first weather satellites TIROS I & II, and the ground station reception disk that received the first television picture from space on April 1, 1960. The program gave birth to Earth observing satellites that continue to monitor Earth's everyday weather and changing climate.
