Mark Stellmach, a local business owner, musician, and avid surfer, is rallying the surfing community and general public to attend Right Coast Recovery, a fundraiser to benefit the restoration of Seaside Park’s Right Coast surf shop, which was severely damaged by hurricane Sandy. To be held at Hemingway’s Café, 612 Boulevard, Seaside Heights, N.J. on April 12 from 6 to 10 P.M., the ticket price of $35 includes a full buffet dinner, complimentary glass of wine or beer, live music, and dancing. Children are welcome to attend.
Three New Jersey-based bands will take the stage that night: The Razorbacks, who have performed with legends Bo Diddly, Fats Domino, and the Stray Cats, play a rockabilly blend of country, surf, and blues and have several albums under their belt. Bongo Surf, comprised of Stellmach and four other musicians, has opened for surf-guitar legend Dick Dale and covers instrumental surf classics of the 60s. Quincy Mumford, an Asbury Park-based band, is currently touring to promote their new album.
In addition, a gift auction will be held, featuring prizes like gift certificates and a four-night stay at a Rincon, Puerto Rico lodge with access to world-class surfing.
Says Mike Colombo, owner of Right Coast surf shop, “We’re a small, independent operation, and we weren’t optimistic about being able to open this summer … but our new motto is: Sandy came, Sandy left, and we’re still here!”
To purchase tickets or make an online donation, visit http://rightcoastsurf.eventbrite.com or contact Stellmach at 908-625-6239 or markstellar@verizon.net. Profits will be donated to the restoration of Right Coast Surf Shop with Right Coast retaining the option to donate to help others still struggling from Sandy.
