Canoeing on Deal Lake, Asbury Park, NJ
Just wanted to keep everyone updated on the fight to prevent the Bradley Cove development on Asbury Park's north end beach.
1. Superstorm Sandy has made it clear that building the Townshomes at Bradley Cove makes no sense. In our last post, we laid out a clear plan for preserving the north end beach.
2. Monmouth County Recreation Commissioner Mike Harmon will be presenting to the Deal Lake Commission February 21st at 7pm. The Commission meets at the Interlaken Town Hall on 100 Grasmere Ave, Interlaken, NJ 07712. Mike is part of a group of Recreation Commissioners who envision an 8-acre Monmouth County Park on Asbury's north end, from Ocean to Lake as reported in the Tri-City News.
3. It looks as if the City of Asbury Park is going to apply for Green Acres funding. Although this is good news, there is very little funding available for projects this year. For the last 6 years the program has been fully funded but unfortunately the City has failed to apply. Last year there was up to $750,000 available for open space purchases.
4. The appraisal of the Bradley Cove tract is underway. Once it is completed, the County can begin negotiations with Asbury Partners/iStar Financial. Currently the County has the north end beach lot on a priority list for purchase with a target price at 2 million dollars.
5. Finally and most importantly, if your town, environmental commission, or local civic group would like to pass a resolution against the Bradley Cove Development and for an Oceanfront Park on Asbury Park's north end beach, please let us know.
